At around 01:45 on Friday, the 1st of July 2011, Enforce Cape Town Training Officer, Donovan Poole, was busy conducting training of Enforce staff at the V&A Waterfront.
While in the security office, he heard via the radio about a fire on the dry docks, adjacent to the Waterfront. He rushed over and found the fire had spread to a shade cloth parking area as well as to the roof of a workshop.
As he came closer he found a number of security personnel contracted by Transnet standing around and watching the fire as it was burning. Donovan quickly jumped the fence, grabbed an extinguisher and extinguished the fire within seconds.
Transnet management soon arrived on site and thanked Donovan for his assistance.
For his actions Donovan received the Enforce AAA Award. His actions again show how we cannot ignore incidents on sites neighbouring those of our clients as these might well escalate to our responsibility areas.
